Instructions
Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with butter.
Take the crust off the bread and cut the slices in half if needed to cover the entire bottom of the pan. Arrange the bread in the greased pan.
Put half of the cheese on top of the bread, followed by the ham, sliced onion, and the rest of the cheese. Add another layer of bread on top.
Press the sandwiches together gently to pack them tightly.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and seasoning until well combined.
Slowly pour the egg mixture over the bread. Cover the pan and refrigerate it for several hours or overnight.
About 1 hour before serving, preheat the oven to 400ºF.
Combine the breadcrumbs, melted butter, and grated cheese in a bowl. Mix well.
Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the sandwiches.
Bake for 42 to 48 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the eggs are set.
Remove the pan from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
