Cozy High Protein Beef Lasagna is a filling dinner with layers of lean ground beef, ricotta cheese, and mozzarella. This easy Italian classic is perfect for a hearty family meal.
Fill a large pot with salted water and bring to a boil. Add lasagna noodles and cook until al dente, following the package directions. Drain and set aside.
Pour olive oil into a large skillet and place over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook for about 4 minutes until soft. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
Stir in salt, black pepper, dried oregano, dried basil, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, and sugar. Let the sauce simmer for 15 to 20 minutes until it thickens.
In a large mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, salt, and parsley. Mix until smooth.
Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Lay 3 noodles on top of the sauce.
Spoon and spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
Add one-third of the meat sauce over the ricotta layer and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
Repeat the layers two more times: noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, mozzarella cheese.
Finish with a final layer of noodles, sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top.
Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and place in a preheated oven at 375°F. Bake for 25 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for another 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese on top is golden and bubbling.
Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.
Add fresh basil leaves on top for garnish.
