Add the onion, garlic, and whiskey to the skillet and stir them together.
Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent.
Add the ground black pepper, salt, ketchup, tomato paste, vinegar, liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and hot pepper sauce to the skillet.
Mix all the ingredients together well.

If you prefer a smooth sauce, run the mixture through a strainer.
