You can pair it with some crusty bread for a satisfying meal. If you want to add a twist, consider topping it with shredded cheese or crispy bacon bits for extra flavor.
Tips and Tricks
Bacon
Maximize Bacon Flavor: For extra bacon flavor, save a bit more of the bacon grease when cooking. You can also sprinkle some crispy bacon bits on top of each bowl before serving.
Potatoes
Uniform Potato Pieces: Make sure to chop the potatoes into even pieces. This ensures they cook evenly and become tender at the same time.
Corn
Fresh Corn Option: If you have fresh corn available, cut it off the cob and use it in place of cream-style corn for a fresher taste. You may need to blend some of the corn to get the creamy texture.
Half-and-Half
Avoid Curdling: Heat the half-and-half gently and avoid letting it boil. This prevents curdling and keeps the chowder smooth.
Seasoning
Adjusting Seasoning: Taste the chowder before serving and adjust the salt and pepper to your preference. Add more if needed to enhance the flavors.
Consistency
Thicker Chowder: For a thicker chowder, mash some of the potatoes against the side of the pot during simmering. This releases starch and thickens the chowder naturally.
Serving
Perfect Garnish: Garnish the chowder with fresh chives or green onions for a pop of color and extra flavor.

Easy Homemade Corn Chowder
Ingredients
- ½ cup bacon diced
- 4 medium potatoes peeled and chopped
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 3 cups cream-style corn
- 2 cups water
- salt to taste
- ground black pepper to taste
- 2 cups half-and-half
Instructions
- Cook the bacon in a large pot on medium-high heat until it becomes crispy. This will take about 5 to 7 minutes. Leave the bacon and about 2 tablespoons of the grease in the pot.
- Add the potatoes and onion to the pot. Stir them occasionally and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add the corn, water, salt, and pepper to the pot. Turn up the heat and bring everything to a boil.
- Once it's boiling, lower the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer. Stir it every so often. Let it simmer until the potatoes become tender, which should be around 20 minutes.
- While that's simmering, put the half-and-half in a small saucepan. Heat it until you see it bubbling, but remove it from the heat just before it boils.
- Mix the heated half-and-half into the chowder.
- Serve immediately
