  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 onion peeled and diced
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil
  • ¼ teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 envelope (1½ ounce) onion soup mix
  • 6 cups water more to desired consistency
  • 1 can (8 ounce) tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 can (15 ounce) diced tomatoes undrained
  • 1 can (15 ounce) corn drained
  • 1 cup celery sliced
  • ¼ cup celery leaves coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup potatoes peeled and cut into small cubes
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
  • garlic salt to taste


  • In a large pot, cook the ground beef and onion together.
  • If there's extra fat, drain it off.
  • Add pepper, oregano, basil, seasoned salt, and onion soup mix to the pot.
  • Pour in water, tomato sauce, and soy sauce. Stir everything together.
  • Heat the pot until the mixture starts to boil. Then, turn down the heat, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Now, add diced tomatoes, corn, celery, potatoes, and frozen vegetables to the pot.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil again. After it starts boiling, lower the heat and let it cook without a cover until the potatoes are soft, which should take about 30 minutes. If it looks like it needs more water, add some.
  • Finally, season the soup with garlic salt according to your taste.
